Sergeant at Arms 2020 - 2021

Sargeant at Arms (July 2019 - Present)

Mark Agopsowicz

Mark was born and raised, and still lives, in the great city of Seattle. Why leave? He loves to run, bike, listen to KEXP, and spend time with family and friends.

Mark joined Toastmasters to improve his comfort level for speaking in public, and his speech preparation skills. He defines himself as a typical introvert who is shy and quiet in nature, and hopes that Toastmasters can help him change that.

Officer Responsibilities for Sargeant at Arms
As Sargeant at Arms, you keep track of the club’s physical property, such as the banner, lectern, timing device, and other meeting materials. You arrive early to prepare the meeting place for members, and you stay late to stow all of the club’s equipment. You are also in charge of the meeting place itself, obtaining a new space when necessary, and maintaining contact with the people who allow you to use the space for your club meetings. The sergeant at arms also has a role to play during business meetings, speech contests, and other special club events. For example, the sergeant at arms escorts potential new members outside of the club’s meeting place while the members vote on admitting them to the club.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure guestbook and welcome packets are available for guests
  • Ensure all attendees have voting ballots and blank Notes of Encouragement
  • Sit close to entrance to welcome late arrivals
  • Insist that others to refer to you as “Sarge”
  • Stay current on all new developments via The Leader Letter and the announcements published on the Toastmasters website
  • Attend monthly Toastpeditors officers meetings
  • Attend district-wide officer’s training twice a year
